The Xanthan gum family provides versatile performance for a range of consumer products. These solutions are pseudoplastic. Xanthan gum has outstanding stability to pH, salt and/or heat and excellent compatibility with other ingredients.

The grades are specifically designed for use as hydrophilic colloids to thicken and stabilize emulsions, foams and suspensions. Unique combinations of properties allow CP Kelco Xanthan gum products to perform beyond the limits of many other commercially available hydrocolloids.

KELCOGEL® Gellan Gum is a water-soluble polysaccharide produced by fermentation. This multi-functional gelling agent can be used alone or in combination with other products to produce a wide variety of interesting textures and allow the replacement of synthetics in certain cases.

They are available in two types: low acyl and high acyl.

Low acyl gellan gum forms firm, non-elastic, brittle gels.

High acyl gellan gum forms soft, very elastic, non-brittle gels.

The two types of gellan gum can be mixed in different ratios to produce a wide variety of textures. Both low acyl and high acyl grades can be used at low concentrations to form fluid gels.

Shearing during cooling disrupts gellan gum’s normal gelation (both types) and results in a smooth, pourable structured liquid or “fluid gel.” Fluid gels are extremely pseudoplastic and highly efficient at suspending items including solids and liquids of differing densities and UV filters. Suspension occurs without significantly impacting the perceived viscosity.

Diutan Gum’s key benefits are long-term suspension, thickening and emulsion stabilization in alkaline, acid and salt systems, resistance to effects from temperature change and ease of mixing, pumping and pouring.

KELCO-VIS Diutan Gum is versatile across a range of applications including agrochemicals, cleaners, fire-fighting foams, paints and coatings, mineral suspensions, sealants, bituminous systems and thickened glycol systems.

The carrageenan family of products has an established position within the consumer products industry as uniform gelling and texturising agents. CP Kelco carrageenans are highly purified hydrocolloids extracted from selected species of red seaweed – Rhodophyceae.

There are three basic types:

• Kappa carrageenan forms firm gels in the presence of sufficient levels of potassium ions.
• Iota carrageenan forms elastic gels and thixotropic fluids in the presence of sufficient levels of calcium ions.
• Lambda carrageenan forms viscous, non-gelling solutions.

With a single carrageenan product, a range of viscosities and gel strengths can be obtained by adjusting other ingredients in the formulation.

These products are well-known gelling agents, traditionally used in food products such as jams and jellies or as water-binding and film-forming agents. GENU Pectins are finding more systems where they provide functionality beyond gelling, including creating viscosity, film-forming and emulsification in a variety of consumer products.

CELLULON™ Cellulose Liquid is an eco-friendly material derived from a microbial fermentation process. This pre-activated cellulose solution offers functionality in high surfactant systems where other hydrocolloids degrade over time.
